What is Physical Therapy?

At Cali Performance we define Physical Therapy as having an impairment that we can objectively measure, treating that impairment with hands on techniques and exercise, all in order to improve your physical health and mental well being.
This process starts with a Physical Therapy Evaluation by a Doctor of Physical Therapy to identify those limitations in your functional movement patterns. We then will perform various tests to focus in on the most problematic tissue and rule out any serious injury that may require further medical provider referral. This allows us to move into hands on techniques to confirm our treatment approach - all in an effort to make you feel better in that first session. Typically we will review 1-3 exercises that you can perform on you own before, after, or in place of a workout throughout the week before we follow up with our next session.
Follow up sessions include returning to our tests to measure any changes in those problematic areas. We again utilize hands on techniques to help you feel better and move better which leads into the most important part, EXERCISE. Given that we treat mostly CrossFit athletes, we will trial various exercises in a typical CrossFit mode such as an EMOM or AMRAP. We have various recovery modalities to use at the end of Rehab WODs to boost your recovery too! It is intentional that we take time to review what was done in each session, why we did that, what will be next in the rehab process, and what you can do during your next few WODs to continue to improve.

What are Recovery Sessions?

We understand that not every CrossFit athlete needs Physical Therapy for their aches and pains, meaning not every athlete has something that can be measured and "worked on" in a typical Rehabilitation type treatment program. Sometimes athletes are just sore after a series of workouts or do a little bit too much in preparation for competition. For these individuals we offer Recovery Sessions which our clinicians use their skills and rehab equipment to reduce soreness and stiffness associated with high intensity training.

What are the Price Differences?

First Visits for Physical Therapy are at a higher price point to establish treatment approaches and communicate with any referring provider or make the necessary arrangements to additional providers. At the writing of this blog First Visits (Initial Evaluations) are $105.
Follow Up Visits are at a slightly lower price now that we have everything squared away and set in motion with weekly Rehab WODs, Home Exercise Plans, and WOD Recommendations. At the writing of this blog Follow Up Visits (Treatment Sessions) are $75.
Recovery Sessions do not require formalized treatment plans as they are usually infrequent in nature and serve to assist an athlete in their current training program within the CrossFit gym. At the writing of this blog Recovery Sessions are $45.
