FAQs

  • Sessions last between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The entire treatment session will be one-on-one with me, Dr. Matt, Doctor of Physical Therapy. We will begin each session reviewing your symptoms and evaluating any changes since your last visit. More often than not I start with a hands on approach to make movement feel better and move into a CrossFit style workout for body region specific exercises. Come prepared for both by wearing athletic clothing including closed toed shoes and bring a water bottle as you may need to hydrate during the workout.

  • Short answer - No.

The long answer is that I have found this to be the best way to treat athletes. Within the insurance payment model I have to be “colorful” with documentation to ensure higher functioning individuals with fitness limitations get the approvals necessary through their insurance. In my experience insurance companies will try to deny or limit PT sessions for any and every reason which often limits the start of Physical Therapy or stops sessions as soon as you start to feel the slightest improvement. So if you are looking for a fitness forward Physical Therapist to help you get back to pain free workouts it is best that we work together outside of the insurance payment model.

  • In the state of California a referral to PT is NOT required to initiate treatment. However, having a Physical Therapy referral signed by a Physician is beneficial for longer treatment courses due to current legislation limiting direct access to 12 visits or 45 calendar days, whichever comes first. I will work with your primary care physician to get a plan of care signed to continue treatment but have found that PCPs do not sign off on my plan of care if you have not seen them recently.

  • The knowledge, skill set, and equipment I have at Cali Performance are available to anyone regardless of Physical Therapy need. “Recovery Sessions” are available to those who want hands on techniques to reduce soreness or prepare for an upcoming event - massage, joint mobilizations, cupping, compression devices, electrical stimulation, or taping. “Wellness Memberships” are designed for those who want regular in person sessions as well as fitness programming. “

The Cali Performance Clinic is a shared space that allows for group fitness classes which can be purchased through Wodify. “Online Fitness Programming” is also available for those that want a clinically informed workout regimen designed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, regardless of where they live or where they have a gym membership.
